In 1954, Perry Merrill, the "father" of Vermont's State Parks and Alpine Ski Areas decided he'd like to see a ski area on Vermont's second tallest peak. He found Preston Smith who shared this vision, and working together, they opened Killington Ski Resort four years later. The 60's were a decade of rapid development of the area.
In winter, Killington is "The Beast of the East" with legendary skiing and riding and top rated nightlife. Killington definitely provides the terrain and knows how to get its party on!
In the "off seasons", Killington is a little more subdued though the infrastructure for a real good time still exists, as does the natural beauty of the region which lends itself to all manner of outdoor activities.
